A Christianity That Works-Part Nine

Several years ago I read a book called "A Christianity That Really Works" by Ron Marr. It is subtitled "A Handbook for Living in Continuous Personal Revival". For the next several nuggets I am going to share excerpts from this book. Any statements that are in quotes are from the book.

THE GOLDEN SECRET

"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30

"There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his own works." Hebrews 4:9-10

"What is the secret of a Christianity that really works? The golden secret is simply Jesus, and resting meekly and contentedly at peace in Him."

"When we come to Him for Himself alone, He gives us not only Himself, but the best there is beside Him–His own free gift of rest."

The Enemy
"One of the unsuspected enemies that destroy our loving, trusting relationship with the Lord is pressure and hurry fed by fear. Fear is in turn fed by lack of genuine trust in God's ability to take care of everything for our benefit without any interference from us."

"Our part is to rest contentedly, quietly, meekly in Him, His love, and His doing."

Which Will it Be?
"Quite possibly the most important question we can ask ourselves moment by moment is this: are we abiding in Him in rest and peace? On the other hand, are the sins of worry, doubt, disobedience, or mistrust, or even of unnecessary, unproductive hurry robbing us of Him and His rest and peace?"

Relax
"Our great sin is a wrong attitude toward God and toward ourselves: putting our trust in ourselves instead of in Him!"

An Open Heart and Countenance
"To function as fully as God intends, openness of heart and of countenance toward God and man are essential. We must rip away our masks, so nothing is false, nothing pretended. We need to become real, true, and transparent primarily toward God, but also toward man as a result. Anything contrary to the truth must be acknowledged and turned from."

"The more complete are our openness and honesty, the more freedom, peace, and joy."

We will have one more nugget from the book and then we will cover new topics.

To the world, you may just be somebody...but to somebody, you may be the world.
