The Cross-Part Five

The Cross and Us

We have taken a look at The Cross and the Hatred of Satan, The Cross and What God Did to Christ, The Cross and What Christ Did, and The Cross and the Blood of Jesus. Now this take a look at The Cross and Us.

Jesus purchased our salvation at the cross. His blood cleanses us of our sin. Salvation is a free gift to us. It is free to us, but it cost Christ His life. There is nothing we can do to earn salvation. And once we are saved, there is nothing we need to do to keep our salvation other than to continue to trust in the saving power of Jesus.

How does the cross apply to us? Just as Jesus laid down His life, God calls us to lay down our lives. Romans 12:1 states "I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship." Worship is more than going to church a few times a week and singing songs. Worship is the submitting of our whole life to God. We are called to die to self.

There is even a more specific verse about The Cross and Us. But before I share it, I want to share a vision(picture) my son received while some people were praying for him.

He was standing with his back to the edge of a lake that was filled with blood. He had his arms outstretched and he saw his shadow reflected on a cross. He leaned back and fell into the lake of blood. He got out of the lake and was thinking he wanted to worship Jesus. He outstretched His hand praising the Father and looking for Jesus. As he did this he saw a person walk up to them. He then realized they had scarred hands. He thought it was Jesus. They then pointed to his outstretched hand and he realized that his hand was also scarred like it had been pierced.

What is the interpretation? Galations 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and delivered Himself up for me."

Who is living within you? Self or Christ? Have you experienced the cross? Are you a living sacrifice? Are you suffering for the gospel? We are not talking about suffering because of sin or foolish decisions. We are talking about the suffering Apostle Paul experienced. 2 Tim. 1:8

"Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, or of me His prisoner; but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God."

We will take one more look at the cross. Our nugget will be titled "The Cross and Pain". We will take a look at the physical pain Christ suffered on the cross and how it applies to us.

To the world, you may just be somebody...but to somebody, you may be the world.
